What is the Illinois Cannabis Consumption Association working for?
ICCA is working to legalize the Illinois Cannabis Hospitality Industry. What does this mean specifically? We are lobbying the State of Illinois legislature and municipal governments across the State to pass laws and ordinances to legalize on-premise cannabis use in as many business models as possible by creating a new exemption to the Smoke Free Illinois Act: the Cannabis Hospitality Venue. We hope this new exemption will be flexible enough to apply to all potential on-premise businesses. We are seeking to legalize on-premise smoke lounges and restaurant or coffee shops plus so much more: bed & breakfasts, private event venues, fitness studios, educational facilities, and so much more. We are also seeking to allow people to sell food and beverage at these locations.
How are you planning on doing this?
We plan on employing a two pronged strategy. Our first approach will to be to engage in traditional lobbying. We plan on meeting with State legislators and local officials to persuade and sponsor legislation to this effect. The nitty gritty of lawmaking will have to become our bread and butter. Our second approach will be community engagement and grassroots activism. We need to ensure that politicians know that not only do business owners want this but voters do too!
